"Just let yourselve
breathe in, and let the waves of harmonious energy flow
in and around you..."
The music was all quiet panpipes and echoing drums, and
an ethereal choral voice aimlessly improvised overtop of
the melodious background.
Jack opened one eye and peeked at Teri. She was looking
back at him, agonized amusement in her eyes. They both
hastily looked away from each other as laughter
threatened to bubble out of them and escape.
"As you breathe in, a wave of warming light will
flow over your body, and as it moves higher and higher,
you will feel all of your muscles relaxing..."
The yoga instructor's voice was peaceful to the point of
being comatose. Jack shifted on the little mat and rolled
his eyes behind closed lids.
The weekend away had been Teri's idea, and for the most
part, it had been a wonderful idea. Hours of time for
each other, uninterrupted by children, work, or any
commitments. They had strolled on the beach near the bed
and breakfast, made love by the fire in their room, and
spent hours lounging naked, stroking each other and
talking like they used to before they were married.
Teri had suggested that they take advantage of some of
the things the bed and breakfast had to offer, and a
morning yoga class had been one of them. So, with an open
minded attitude, Jack had followed Teri into the softly
lit room with a few other couples, and was now trying to
imagine his chakra opening to the sun.
Or something like that.
He was getting much more tense trying to hold in his
laughter. He snuck another look at Teri, and could see
the firm set of her jaw. The edges of her mouth were
creeping higher and higher. He couldn't hold it in any
longer, and a little snort escaped.
"You may experience many feelings as you reach deep
within yourself. You may feel the need to vocalize these.
I encourage you to do so. Just let it alllll out...."
The yoga teacher's voice, normally smooth and calm, held
a slight pause of disapproval.
Jack's sides were shaking now. Oh, it was too much. He
heard Teri's strained breathing beside him. She wasn't in
a better state.
"Try to concentrate on yourself, on the beauty of
your inner soul..." There was definintely strain in
the teacher's voice now.
Unable to take it any longer, Jack sat up and got quietly
to his feet, mumbling an excuse about not feeling well.
The yoga teacher lay on her own mat, and didn't look up
as Teri, poorly feigning sympathy and concern, got up to
follow Jack.
They barely made it out into the hall and closed the door
before they collapsed into giggles and ran back to their
room, gasping with tears of hilarity in their eyes.
"I feeeeel my harmonious energy, and it says...Ommmmmm,"
Jack intoned in a mock-serious monotone voice, posing for
his wife. Teri clutched at her stomach and rolled on
their bed, guffawing.
"Okay, so yoga's out," she gasped. "We'll
have to find another way to get our exercise then..."
Jack wiggled his eyebrows suggestively and leapt onto the
bed next to her, and the conversation veered into another
direction.
